Bertrand Marchand leaves us at the age of 70

Stade Rennais announced today, Saturday, August 26, the passing of former player and coach Bertrand Marchand at the age of 70.


After ending his playing career, Bertrand Marchand embarked on a new path as a coach in 1982. His coaching career saw him take charge of various French clubs before venturing into a footballing adventure in Tunisia. He left an indelible mark by leading renowned teams such as Club Africain, Etoile Sportive du Sahel, and Croissant Sportif Chebbien, among others.


His skills and passion also led him to serve as the head coach of the Tunisian national team for a brief period in 2010. This experience as a national team coach showcased his contribution to the development of Tunisian football.


Among the highlights of his coaching career, Bertrand Marchand proudly achieved two prestigious titles. In 2007, he guided Etoile Sportive du Sahel to victory in the CAF Champions League, demonstrating his ability to lead a team to success on the continental stage. The following year, in 2008, he repeated this feat by winning the CAF Super Cup with the same team.
